Thank you for the E-mail you sent me. I want to give you some information.
You asked me about the food and the eating habits as well as the table manners in Austria.
In Austria we don´t have to wait until the waiter shows us the table where we can sit. We have to choose our table.
In restaurants there are mostely 4 waiters not more.
In Austria the most popular food is "Schnitzel" it´s made out of beef or pork.
- In Austria you have to eat with cutlery.
- For cutting a meat you use a knife, for takeing the food you use a fork and for the soup you use a spoon.
- You shouldn´t slourp the soup because there are other guessts which are not happy about that.
- You have to eat with a closed mouth because the others on the table don´t want to see the food in your mouth.
- When you have finished the food you should say "Danke es hat gut geschmeckt".
When you eat with an other family you can choose you seat not like in the USA. You also can start when you get the food if the family allowed you to begin. When you start eating you say "Mahlzeit" or "Guten Appetit". Then you can start to eat and when you have finished with the food you should say "Das Essen war gut".
I hope I could help you and I hope you will write back.
Yours
Sebastian
